Downspout Records is an independent record label based in Johnson City, TN, founded in 2022 by producer and musician Matthew Sykes.

Since its inception, Downspout Records has served as the primary distributor for many of the area’s top acts and most ambitious projects. Some of our highlights include a wide range of exclusive cassette pressings available at our pop-up tape shop during artists’ shows, the first-ever Gutter Fest—a two-night showcase of our artists at the legendary venue The Hideaway—two limited vinyl runs, and digital distribution across every major streaming platform for more than 15 artists on our roster. As the label continues to grow, we’re always looking to expand our reach beyond the Tri-Cities. With artists now based in Knoxville, TN, and Asheville, NC, Downspout Records is positioning itself as one of the premier partners for artists and musicians throughout TN, VA, and NC.

Just as important as the artists we release, our relationship with them is essential to their happiness and willingness to create under our name. Artists who partner with Downspout Records retain full rights to their original master recordings and are free to pursue other release opportunities as they arise. We exist to support the growth of our community and to help it develop a strong musical identity. We believe we have some of the best music the area has to offer, and the success of one of our artists contributes to the success of our entire roster, our community, and our music scene as a whole.
